MPR Celebrates 20 Years of Success in the Certification Industry

MPR International proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary as a successful company in the global certification sector. Since its founding in 2005 as MPR China Certification GmbH, the company has expanded its reach from Europe to a worldwide customer base. Initially, MPR specialized in China certifications, particularly the China Compulsory Certification (CCC). By establishing strong relationships with international authorities and offering innovative services, MPR has become a leading provider of certifications in the automotive and other product industries.

In 2013, MPR China Certification GmbH achieved a significant milestone when it was recognized as an Outstanding Certification Company by the China Certification Center for Automotive Products (CCAP). Further recognition followed from the Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (SMVIC), which honored MPR as an Excellent Partner for vehicle components and comprehensive testing. Additionally, an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed with SMVIC.

Since 2019, MPR has successfully expanded its reach to the markets of India, Korea, and Japan.
In India, the company strengthened its collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which paid an official visit to Frankfurt to enhance certification processes and international partnerships, offering clients more efficient solutions. Furthermore, MPR works closely with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT) to provide type approvals and regulatory compliance services in the growing Indian market. An MOU was also signed with iCAT.

In Korea, MPR collaborates with local authorities and testing laboratories to ensure compliance with national standards. This partnership has been reinforced through regular visits to Korean certification bodies and technical inspection institutions, which has helped streamline and enhance the transparency of certification processes for clients in Korea.

A pivotal step in the company’s development was joining the Certania Group, a leading conglomerate specializing in testing, inspection, and certification services. This has enabled MPR to significantly expand its global testing and service capabilities.

Update on implementation and deadlines for QCOs for footwear for BIS certification in India

As part of the mandatory BIS certification for footwear, starting July 2023, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) clarifies the implementation of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for various footwear products, including sandals, slippers and Hawaiian chappals. These QCOs fall under the “All-Rubber and all Polymeric material and its components (Quality Control) Order, 2022,” and the “Leather and other materials (Quality Control) Order, 2022.” These QCOs became effective on July 1,2023.

The publication notes that manufacturers will be given an additional six months for certain products with recently revised standards, extending the compliance deadline to December 31, 2023. The products with the revised standards and the respective deadlines for compliance with the standards are as follows:

1. Rubber Hawaii Chappal (IS 10702:1992)à The deadline for compliance with the revised IS 10702:2023 standard has been extended to December 31, 2023.
   –
2. Rubber Slipper (IS 11544:1986)à The compliance date for rubber slippers has been extended to December 31, 2023.
   –
3. Sandal and Slipper (IS 6721:2023)à The deadline for compliance with the revised IS 6721:2023 standard has been extended to December 31, 2023.
   –
4. PVC Sandals (IS 6721:1972)à The compliance deadline remains July 1, 2023 for PVC sandals manufactured by injection molding. For sandals made of materials other than PVC, such as polymers (TPR/EVA/PU/TPU), the deadline for compliance with the QCO standard is extended to January 1, 2024, regardless of whether they are fully molded or composite.

In addition, the implementation deadlines for quality control orders for various footwear products are clarified and the deadlines for compliance with the revised standards for certain products made of materials other than rubber or PVC are extended.

Exchange between ARAI and MPR on the Type Approval Certificate (TAC) in Frankfurt

On February 7, 2023, Dr. Shamsundara, Deputy Director of ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) visited MPR International GmbH in Frankfurt. Dr. Shamsundara gave a presentation about the mandatory AIS certification in India and the process how to get a Type Approval Certificate (TAC) in India according to AIS-37. Part of this approval is CoP audits, which are usually held every two years, as well as product testing.

In addition, Dr. Shamsundara presented ARAI’s plans to expand its laboratory capabilities to include extensive testing facilities in the area of electric mobility, especially for batteries and powertrains.
Dr. Shamsundara also provided information on the GSR 870 regulation under which many international manufacturers are running vehicle homologation for India.

The MPR International team discussed with Dr. Shamsundara the certification requirement under the BIS-ISI certification for rims, tires and safety glass. Again, ARAI can assist with testing in India.

MPR International supports automotive suppliers worldwide in getting their components approved under Indian IS standards and AIS standards under AIS certification and BIS certification under BIS. MPR International is looking forward to further cooperation with ARAI.

Indian Authorities Closed During New Year

Several Indian authorities and certification institutions will be closed for the New Year Holidays.
This applies to Christmas Day on December 25, 2022, and the New Year’s holiday on January 01, 2023. This year, these days fall on Sundays, so the authorities will resume their work as normal from January 02, 2023, without any major delay. Unlike in previous years, there should therefore be at most only minor delays in the certification process due to the closure at the turn of the year.

High demand for cooling appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners in summer 2022

During this year’s heat wave in India, demand for cooling equipment such as refrigerators, air conditioners, evaporative coolers and fans increased tremendously. Electrical retailer Croma, part of the Tata Group of Companies, reported that sales doubled during the summer season. According to Croma’s own sales report, “Unboxed Summer 2022,” twice as many refrigerators and three times more air conditioners were sold than the previous year. Cheaper evaporative coolers saw 2.5 times more sales than the previous year and sold best in the Pune region. Fans were in demand twice as much as in 2021 and sold most in Bangalore. Many of these products fall under the mandatory BIS certification required for them to be imported and distributed in India.

Air conditioners sold most in cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Kolkata. It was found that consumers are increasingly paying attention to the energy efficiency of the units: More than half of the air conditioners purchased have an energy efficiency rating of three stars or higher. In the greater Delhi area, air conditioners with a heating function are also popular, accounting for around 60 percent of all units sold there. For refrigerators, compressors with inverter function are becoming increasingly popular and their current market share is around 60 percent. In terms of size, refrigerators with around 300 liters are the most frequently sold models, which indicates many first-time buyers.

Team Event 2022 for MPR International in Frankfurt

This year’s team event of MPR International took place on September 14, 2022. After a long time of planning, a date was found where all members of the team from Germany could come together.

 

After the preliminary sports program in the form of stand-up paddling (SUP) on the river Main had to be postponed for the time being due to rain, the group gathered in the evening for a joint cooking class, which was professionally guided.

Under the helpful and instructive supervision of the professional chef from Ketao present, a wonderful 6-course meal was prepared in collaboration. The dishes were refined according to the recommendations of the chef, with magnificent results.

The event offered a lot of opportunity for exchange and there with an excellent atmosphere. The sociability and the gathering of all employees from Germany was a special and valuable experience for us all. We are glad that everyone enjoyed it and are grateful for the strong team spirit that prevails in our company.

In June and July 2022, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) will offer a series of online seminars created and conducted by us, MPR International.

Indian Authorities Closed During New Year

Several Indian authorities and certification institutions will be closed for the New Year Holidays.
The New Year holidays will be on January 01, 2022. This year, the New Year’s Eve falls on a weekend, so the authorities will resume their work from January 03, 2022.
Additionally, iCAT  will also be closed in the days around Christmas, from December 23 – 25, 2021.
Due to the closing delays in the certification process may occur.
