Postponement of BIS Certification for Air Conditioning Systems Until October 2023

February 2023The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) announces that in the “Air Conditioners and Associated Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019” in sub-paragraph (2) of paragraph 1, for the entry “on January 1, 2023”, was updated to “on October 1, 2023”. Air conditioners and associated components generally require BIS certification to be approved for import and sale in India.
After consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) the central government decided that it is in the public interest to issues the following order further amending the “Air Conditioners and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019” to the following:
- (1) This order may be called the “Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022”.
(2) It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
- In the “Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019” in paragraph 1, in sub-paragraph (2), for the words and figures “the 1st January, 2023”, the words and figures “1st October, 2023” shall be substituted.

For the purpose of this table, the latest version of the Indian Standards, including amendments, announced by the Bureau of Indian Standards shall apply.
