New standard for cell phones published in India IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022
11. November 2022Regarding the Indian standard for “Mobile phones – Part 3 Indian language support for cell phones – Specific requirements (First revision)”. IS 16333 (Part 3): 2017 there is a revision published, which is IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022. The last date for simultaneous application of both Indian standards is extended to December 17, 2022, after which existing IS 16333 (Part 3): 2017 is to be withdrawn. Among other things, this product category in India can be subject to BIS certification.
The main changes to the revised standard are shown in the table below:

All existing licensees must transitioned to IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022 by December 17, 2022. After December 17, 2022, no license will be valid unless compliance with IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022 has been ensured by the registered user.
New applications will be accepted after November 17, 2022, which is one month prior to the last date for implementation of IS 16333 (Part 3): 2022, under the existing IS 16333 (Part 3): 2017.
