New Requirements for Tyres Under IS 15636

On June 28, 2022 the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has issued a notification affecting tyres falling under the Indian Standard IS 15636:2012. Besides the name change in sub rule (1) to IS 15636:2019, the notification mandates requirements of rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling sound emissions for tyres as defined in the AIS (Automotive Industry Standard )142:2019.
Tyre classes that are affected include classes C1 (passenger cars), C2 (light truck) and C3 (truck and bus), as defined in the AIS 142:2019. Numerous tire types require BIS certification in India.

The changes will be implemented on October 1, 2022 for new designs of tyres and on April 1, 2023 for existing designs.
