New Product Groups for ISI and CRS Certifications from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India

In 2020, extensive additions were made to the product lists for ISI and CRS certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). A total of 269 new product groups were brought under mandatory certification, 242 of the newly added product groups fall under the ISI mode of the BIS certification, 27 under the simplified CRS mode.
It seems the government under Premier Modi has taken advantage of the uncertain economic situation during the Corona crisis to further expand the regulatory framework. This expansion is entirely in light of the 2023 Plan of 2019, through which the Premier Modi set a goal for the government to ensure quality, safety, and reliability of products. It is likely that the lists will be expanded throughout the next few years.
In general, product tests in India are required for BIS certification and in the case of ISI certification, a factory inspection is also required. It also covers a wide range of products: From steel to household products, chemicals and electronics to toys and various other products need to be certified. Most of the products in that list were just added in 2020. You can find the complete list of the newly added product groups at the end of this article.
The CRS certification requirement mainly covers IT products, as well as other electronics.
