New BIS Quality Requirements for Drinking Water Bottles
31. October 2024The Ministry of Trade and Industry has published the Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, which was promulgated in the Official Gazette on 29 August 2024 and is effective from that date. As a result, drinking water bottles must comply with the requirements of the Indian standard IS 17803:2022, which sets the quality standards for drinking bottles made of copper, stainless steel or aluminium. Water bottles require BIS Certification to be approved for import and sale in India.
According to this regulation, the water bottles must bear the standard mark and be licensed under Scheme-1 of Annex II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This ensures that the products meet the established safety and quality standards.
