3. May 2023

What does CIRT stand for?

The Central Institute of Transport (CIRT) was established in 1967 through a joint initiative of the Ministry of Shipping & Transport and the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings. The Institute is dedicated to improving the efficiency and productivity of the transport sector.
With the support of international organizations such as UNDP and the British Council, CIRT has strengthened its core competencies and is now considered a major management development center in India.

What does CIRT do?

The institute provides technical training, consultancy and testing services of automotive components as part of the BIS certification process. CIRT has a comprehensive automotive component testing laboratory that is recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards for testing a wide range of automotive components. ASRTU relies on CIRT’s test reports when awarding rate contracts to automotive component manufacturers. The institute also offers consulting and research work in the areas of transportation policy, planning, and management, as well as maintenance management, materials management, human resource management, and management information systems.
