Announcement on Change of Marking for BIS-CRS Certification
26. January 2023The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which provides the regulatory framework for BIS-certification, has decided to change the CRS standard marking. This is to be unified with the already existing and well-known ISI standard marking. The information such as registration number, IS/IEC standard and the BIS website will remain unchanged. This is only an aesthetic change that does not require factory audits, testing or registration. The aim of this change is to increase consumer adoption and awareness of ISI labelling. Costs and efforts will be reduced by using a single mark.
The tentative timeline for the introduction of this change has not yet been set, but it is expected to come into force within the next 12 months. As soon as new information is available on this topic, it will be published in the news section on our website.
BIS certification is divided into two approval processes, BIS-ISI certification and BIS-CRS certification, and is mandatory for many product groups. For both certifications, the marking requirements must be met to ensure the conformity of the products in the Indian market.
Since 2012, the BIS has been gradually expanding the certification catalog and continuously adding additional goods. BIS certification mandatory for many electronic products for industrial and consumer uses. Factory inspections are also required for some products.
